The Department of Education was established in the year 1973. The Department started M.Ed. class of one year with an intake of 25 students along with one Professor and four lecturers to cater to the needs of the students in sharing the teaching responsibility.
Later another class of M.A. Education, two-year course was started in the year 1978 with an intake capacity of 50 students. This class was started to build up a logical continuity for large number of the students passing education as a subject at B.A. level. The Department is presently housed in building of Behavioural Sciences under the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences.
In addition to this, 10 students of M.Phil 20 students of Pre-Ph.D. course and 10 Scholars of Ph.D. were enrolled every year. The number of teachers added till now is very nominal in proportion to the increase in number of intake capacity of students.

There are only 6 teachers who are presently responsible for sharing the total load of work of the Department. The Department is running two P.G. courses viz. M.Ed. and M.A. Education. However, the Department finds poor response from the students for pursuing M.Phil Course for the last five years due to the revised statutes for enrolment to Ph.D. course.
The Department has the distinction of admitting very meritorious students in M.A. Education and M.Ed. class. Every year, the number of applicants desirous of seeking admission is swelling/increasing for admission to M.A. Education and M.Ed. course. The Department has established good library with sufficient space for reading facility. The Department uses Computer, Overhead Projector and LCD for projecting and presenting certain academic activities. The Department has set up Computer labs. for the use of the students. All teachers have the computers available on their table, with internet connections.
The Department has laid its thrust in different areas of research viz.,
Educational Psychology;
Teacher Education;
Measurement and Evaluation;
Educational Technology; and
Special Education/Information and communication Technology
In addition to these areas, the courses of study at M.A. and M.Ed. level are synchronized with all other aspects of Education. An effort is being made to produce a Post-graduate with full exposure to the field of education. |
